Cultivating strong IQ and skillset

OUR PHILOSOPHY

At JABFIRST BXN ACADEMY, ring mastery is at the core of our coaching philosophy, empowering young boxers by building the technical foundations needed to control exchanges, stay confident under pressure, and find smart solutions in the heat of competition. We develop these skills through a relentless yet supportive training culture, where purposeful repetition meets dynamic conditioning, all delivered with the attention to detail expected at the pinnacle of elite academy boxing. At JFB, every athlete is encouraged to be bold, take chances, and embrace the challenge, instilling the mindset required to thrive at the very highest level of the sport.

OUR FRAMEWORK

Coach Femi from first jab boxing academy is standing in front of a brick wall with his arms crossed.

TECHNICAL FOUNDATIONS & BOXING MOVEMENT

We begin every student’s journey with a structured focus on movement and control. Young boxers are taught how to stand, move, and carry themselves with purpose. Using tailored drills such as line stepping, mirror footwork, and ladder drills, students learn how to move forward, backward, laterally, and pivot with balance and awareness. These exercises are layered with shadowboxing patterns, which gradually introduce arm positioning, guard discipline, and light punching technique — all without any contact. This stage lays the athletic and behavioural foundation for everything else we build.

STRIKING MECHANICS & NON-CONTACT TECHNIQUE

Once movement habits are set, we introduce striking through highly controlled and structured drills. We focus on the correct technique for basic punches: jab, cross, hook, and uppercut — taught in isolation before being developed into simple combinations. Padwork plays a central role at this stage, allowing students to work with a coach or partner to learn accuracy, timing, and distance control in a completely safe environment. Defensive movement is introduced alongside this: basic slipping, rolling, and controlled reactions, always focused on form rather than force. These drills are carefully designed to develop coordination, focus, and discipline without any physical risk.

CONTROLLED PARTNER DRILLS & RESPONSIVE SKILL WORK

Rather than free sparring or contact drills, we run a series of pre-set, controlled partner exercises that allow students to work together in a respectful and structured way. These include mirror drills, reaction-based tagging, and distance management games — all designed to simulate the decision-making aspect of boxing without introducing impact. Students learn how to respond to visual cues, defend their space, and anticipate movement, all while reinforcing teamwork and mutual respect. These drills are not competitive, but educational — helping students apply their skills under light pressure in a safe, supportive setting.

DYNAMIC CONDITIONING & BOXING-BASED GAMES

Every session is finished with high-energy, engaging games that reinforce core boxing concepts while promoting fitness, enjoyment, and teamwork. These include:

  •  Reaction ball challenges for reflexes
  •  Timed movement circuits for footwork and endurance
  •  Pad relay races to build cardio and coordination
  •  Punch-count drills for speed and control

Each activity is designed to leave students feeling accomplished, active, and excited to return. Our aim is to develop not just physical ability, but confidence, discipline, and a love for movement through boxing.
